The Coburg Lions has lost to the Williamstown Seagulls by 38 points at Burbank Oval.
After a strong start, the Seniors couldn’t keep pace with the reigning premiers on their home deck, the Seagulls playing the conditions and the ground better to run over the top in the final quarter and a half.
Ben Allan (23 possessions, 7 clearances) and Liam Hunt (22 disposals and 5 clearances) lead the midfield effort serviced by Tom Goodwin , while both Luke Ryan (23 disposals) and Ahmed Saad (3 goals) again dominated at opposite ends of the ground.
It took almost 10 minutes of end to end play for the Burgers to finally put the first score on the board.
Coburg pressure around the stoppage and in the forward 50 a highlight early, resulting in Matthew Merlo getting on the board against his old side.
Williamstown finally got on the board, however the Lions would answer back with another of their own to be up by 13 point at the first break.
Again it would take 10 minutes for either side to trouble the scorers, this time Williamstown cutting back the margin.
Despite the Lions holding most of the possession it was Willy who showed how to move the ball across Burbank oval, quick movement having them back into the contest in no time.
A late Ahmed Saad goal keeping the visitors still in the contest at the half time break.
The home side wasted no time getting on the board in the third before a soccered effort from Josh Cauchi evened the ledger.
Willy using the slight wind advantage, with quick entries putting the Lions defenders under red hot pressure, as Williamstown put on another two to lead by 25 points at the last change.
The Seagulls wouldn’t let the visitors back into the contest piling on another five last quarter goals, two late Saad majors keeping the margin from blowing past 38 points.
