The Coburg Lions Development side has gone down to the Casey Scorpions by 49 points at Piranha Park.
The Lions held an early lead, however, Casey capitalised on Coburg errors, sharing the footy and playing the conditions to greater effect to run over the top.
Jesse Corigliano continue his sensational form, putting his name in the hat for Senior selection. Kyle Staples kicked 3 goals in a standout performance up forward, while Tim Sutherland rucked well against a taller opposition ruckman.
Coburg looked the more threatening side early, rebounding well out of the back half, spreading forward catching the Casey defence off guard to take the lead.
Despite holding the early lead it would take only four inside 50’s for the visitors to draw level late in the term. Kyle Staples then announced his return, kicking his second for the quarter to extend the margin to 7 points at the first break.
Casey, with a wind advantage, kicked 3 behinds to open the second term. Turnovers began to hurt the Lions on the rebound, this time the visitors making sure, 3 goals in a row giving them a 14 point buffer.
The home side pushed hard against the wind, to no avail as Casey ran home their fourth and fifth for the quarter to lead by 31 points at half time.
It took till the 10th minute mark of the third term for Coburg to hit the scoreboard, Kyle Staples continuing his form, before Adam Valeri gave us consecutives to cut the margin to three goals.
The Scorpions responded with three of their own before a late Matthew Merlo bomb kept Coburg in with a sniff at three quarter time.
The Lions went goal for goal early in the last, however, Casey were too strong in the end, running out eventual 48 point winners.

The Seniors will head to the Holden Centre next Saturday (6th August) while the Development side will play Williamstown at Burbank Oval on Sunday (7th August).
