Lions sign another Cannon graduate!

20161115_184447Hayden Blythe is the third 2016 graduate from our aligned TAC Cup side Calder Cannons to sign for the Coburg Football Club’s 2017 campaign.

A defender who predominately runs off halfback, Blythe is also capable of playing as a midfielder. He first began his football with EDFL side Glenroy, managing to make his EDFL senior debut as a sixteen-year-old in 2014. Blythe has been a mainstay of the Calder Cannons in both his seasons at Highgate Reserve, managing 34 games across two seasons.

He was named amongst Calder’s best seven times throughout the 2016 season and managed a fourth place finish in the best and fairest. His form caught the eye of Vic Metro selectors and managed one game in the NAB Under 18 Championships. Blythe boasts an excellent level of speed and ability to win read the play.

Blythe cannot wait to begin his time in the VFL following his two seasons at TAC Cup level.

“Hopefully I can come to Coburg not only to meet my new teammates, but to play the best football I can and hopefully end up getting drafted, that’s my main goal and hopefully I play well enough to be picked up.”

List and Recruiting Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo was pleased with the addition of another Calder Cannon graduate to the 2017 list.

“Hayden comes across as a neat running defender that is equally comfortable on a wing or even as a small forward where he displays great creativity,” said Spagnuolo.”

Blythe joins fellow Cannons graduates to sign after Jaidyn Owen and Jack Reaper. Stay tuned for more announcements as our preseason campaign begins soon.
