200cm Northern Knight becomes a Lion!

Cobchas-robertsurg continue to use its geographical location to its advantage, signing Ruckman Chas Roberts from the Northern Knights.

Standing at 200cm, Roberts managed 18 games for the Preston City Oval based outfit in his third year at the Knights, managing ten goals and named amongst his coaching staffs best five times. He led the TAC Cup competition in hitouts, recording 425 for the season, averaging 23.6 per game.

The West Preston Lakeside Junior also represented the Northern Blues in one Development League game in the middle of the season, and also made an appearance in the annual AFL Victoria Young Guns game. Roberts was also named the winner of the Northern Knights ‘Most Improved Player’ award for 2016.

Roberts is a ruckman who boasts a considerable work ethic and strength capacity, giving his midfielders first use of the ball often on occasion. While he is going to take some time to develop due to his light frame, Roberts can’t want to begin his venture out of the TAC Cup to play VFL with the Lions.

“The most exciting thing for me about Coburg was the willingness for them to reward younger players with senior opportunities.”

“I am looking forward to being involved in a team orientated environment in which team success is a priority,” Roberts said.

Sebastian Spagnuolo was pleased to have secured the signature of the young ruckman, who adds significant and much needed key position and ruck depth.

“Chas was one of the most dominant ruckmen in the TAC Cup in 2016 and we’ll be looking for Chas to develop his game and body further, which should see him have the ability to play at a high level in the VFL with our club in the future.”

“Chas is another player that saw Coburg as the best place for him to develop his game, and we’re really excited to have him in our program,” said Spagnuolo.

With this being our third signing of the week, stay tuned for tomorrow and Friday’s announcements.
