Coburg continues to become an attractive option for TAC Cup graduates from the neighboring Northern Knights, with their Vice-Captain in exciting youngster Luke Bunker recently agreeing to terms.
Considered by Champion Data to go in the top 25 of the National Draft, Bunker only managed 7 games for the Knights in the TAC Cup, however averaged 27.5 possessions, five marks and six tackles a game. Despite missing the majority of the TAC Cup season due to school football commitments with Ivanhoe Grammar alongside Vic Metro duty, Bunker still managed to take out second place in the Knights Best & Fairest.
With Vic Metro, Bunker also managed to average 22 disposals in four games, and managed a fourth place finish in the squads MVP. Of all Vic Metro players, he had the most scoring involvements, and also averaged 10.3 contested possessions per game.
Bunker has earnt a reputation for his hard at it approach for the ball, and his general midfield smarts- especially in regards to his clearance work and winning the contested ball. One of the most consistent underage players all season, Bunkers leadership qualities at the Knights were considered second to none.
Another youngster arriving at the club harboring AFL ambitions, and while disappointed he wasn’t taken in the recent drafts, Bunker is looking forward to getting down to business with the Lions.
“Definitely the main goal here is to play as many senior games as I can, so for me just work hard as I can over the preseason and then once the games come around I’m playing senior footy, so that’s the main goal,” said a determined Bunker.
