Northern Knights 2016 Vice-Captain Matthew Perry has agreed to terms with the Coburg Football Club, becoming yet another Northern Knight to join the Lions for season 2016.
A former Vic Metro representative in 2015, Perry was recalled to the Northern Knights as a nineteen-year-old for 2016, and in fourteen matches played was named amongst the coaching staff’s best on nine occasions. Perry was also rewarded with three appearances for the Northern Blues- his debut came in round seven, ironically against Coburg.
Perry averaged 23.4 possessions during his TAC Cup season with the Knights. A hard working midfielder who displays a high work rate and level of intensive running, Perry joins the likes of his fellow Knights Vice-Captain Luke Bunker, and fellow graduate Chas Roberts at Piranha Park. Perry is also capable of playing as a flanker of either end of the ground.
After a fourth place finish in the Knights Best & Fairest count, Perry cannot wait to begin his time in the VFL and is looking forward to pulling on the Lions jumper, due to the opportunities on offer at Piranha Park.
“Probably just all the opportunity- good young list, obviously a great coach, I’m just looking for all the opportunities that they provide, and obviously they’ve done a great job of getting young kids drafted in the last couple of years, so it’s definitely one of the things that I’m most looking forward to.”
List & Recruiting Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo was pleased to have attained a quality player of Perry’s talent.
“Matt is a good accumulator and user of the ball, and given his size he has great scope to develop into a taller midfielder, but also as a medium forward too where he’s spent a bit of time.”
“Matt has a great attitude towards his development, and we are very excited by the prospect of having him join our footy club.”
Stay tuned for more new signings, and re-signings of returning players to be announced before Christmas this weekend.
