After his performance in Sunday’s defeat to Williamstown, defender Ryan Exon has been named this week’s Lion of the Round.
Another former Frankston Dolphin turned Lion this year, Exon managed 13 disposals, 5 tackles and 3 inside-50’s during the 88-point loss.
“The entire club has been so welcoming, so it’s made it a really easy transition,” he said.
“I was reasonably happy with my game, but still feel as if I could have done more,” Exon continued.
This week the Lions will take on Sandringham at Piranha Park, and look to record their first win after what has been a disappointing start to the season.
For Exon, this means defending better and working harder for the entire game.
“We all need to improve our defensive work rate and overall effort,” he said.
“It’s also going to be hard to win games if we don’t play four quarters.”
Having 33 VFL games under his belt, the 2012 Oakleigh Chargers Premiership captain besides hopefully getting the win this weekend, Exon hopes the team can show improvement in the areas they have been working on at training.
But for the rest of the season, Exon’s main focus is his kicking and decision-making.
“(My decision-making) is a work in progress; I still definitely need to improve this area of my game,” he said.
Capable of playing on the wing with outstanding speed, Head Coach Peter German also spoke highly of him after Sunday’s game at Burbank Oval.
“He came to Coburg as an experienced recruit, and has shown a great resolve with his defensive approach.” German said.
“Very committed to restricting his opponent, he was moved into the midfield with a run-with role on the dangerous Marcon. He nullified his impact, and showed he can be an adaptable defensive player for us.” the Head Coach continued.
