Coburg’s Development side have gone down to Casey Demons by 30 points despite a close first half, with the final scores 13.6 (84) to 17.12 (114) at Piranha Park this morning.
The Lions started off strong and set themselves up with an advantage early when Ricky Schraven kicked the opening goal of the match in just 47 seconds.
Going into the first change 8-points up, the second term saw three lead changes and a much closer contest between both sides.
Coburg’s defensive pressure and forward attack was solid at times, despite Casey taking a 2-point lead at the main break.
In what started off as a close contest during the first half, the Demons came out firing after half-time to kick three goals within the first three minutes.
And while the Lions went on to sparingly kick three of their own, Casey were quick to respond and able to push their lead out to 29-points at the last change.
A highlight in the final quarter saw Cameron McRorie boot two back-to-back majors, finishing with three for the day.
The goal-kicking was spread around, with 11 individuals contributing and Cameron McRorie leading the way with three.
Angelo Rambaldi managed to get his hands on the ball a fair bit, notching up 26 disposals, while Connor Byrne (21 touches, 1 goal), Zak Wunhym (19 touches, 1 goal) and Michael Ercolano (19 touches, 1 goal) were all busy throughout the midfield.
Next week will see Coburg take on the Northern Blues at Preston City Oval, so be there from 11am to show your support for the Development boys.
