For the second time this year Ryan Exon has been named the Post Office Hotel’s Lion of the Round, after his impact in Saturday’s NAIDOC match against Werribee.
The former Frankston Dolphin managed to record 21 disposals and even a goal, and was happy with his game despite the result.
“I was given a defensive role to restrict an opposition player, which I really like the challenge of,” he said.
“I’ve been trying to improve how I help the team offensively, so it was good to get on the scoreboard for the first time this year.”
The Coburg Seniors gave it their all against Werribee, leading at every break and desperately trying to hold off the threatening Tigers.
But the win slipped out of their hands in the last quarter, with Werribee playing a harder and faster ball game.
“We just couldn’t get our hands on the ball, and were very ineffective when we actually did,” Exon said.
“Werribee on the other hand, made the most of their chances.” he continued.
Averaging 16 possessions, nine kicks, seven handballs, four tackles each game since earning Lion of the Round status back in Round 4, Exon’s efforts have not gone unnoticed.
And while Coburg may have a bye this week, the Senior boys are ready for what lays ahead, including going up against the reigning Premiers, Footscray.
“We’ll go into the week off with a focus to get our body and mind in a spot to attack the last six games of the year,” Exon said.
“Hopefully we can start that with a win against Footscray.”
In the Development League, Head Coach Paul “PK” Kennedy named Michael Ercolano as best-on-ground.
Ercolano recorded 26 disposals, 10 clearances and even a goal during their comfortable 58-point win.
