The Coburg Football Club is pleased to announce the town of Healesville as the chosen location for the 2018 Community Camp.
Not too far from Dixons Creek where our skipper Tom Goodwin hails from, and a familiar town to new Lions coach Leigh Adams, Healesville is best known for it’s nature park Healesville Sanctuary and is 52kms North East from Melbourne.
The camp will be hosted by the Healesville Football Club and our Lions are keen to get into what should be a camp full of hard work, bonding and will include our team’s first full scale intra club practice match of the season. The camp will run from Friday February 23rd through to Sunday February 25th 2018.
When asked what he was looking to get out of the camp, Coburg FC senior coach Leigh Adams said “I’m looking forward to getting to know the players on a more personal level away from the football club, as well as working with the players to set up some core values in which our footy club wants to stand for. ”
New Coburg FC High Performance Manager Todd Beames has some gruelling activities organised for the playing group and for him the camp will be all about “ensuring we tick the appropriate boxes across the entire weekend”. Beames added “It will be a really good chance to take the boys out of their comfort zone. We will try and test them mentally and physically for most of the weekend, but for us its about bringing the group together, gaining trust in each other and continuing to work towards a common goal.”
For our skipper Tom Goodwin, being so close to home provides him with some different feelings about the camp “I travel from out Healesville way 3-4 times per week so the trip is almost a daily one for me. But to be able to bring Coburg and my team mates out to the Yarra Valley region is a great opportunity to display our VFL training standards to a local community and give them a first hand look at the hard work that we all put in to play at the highest level possible. For me, it’s extra special because it’s my home region that we’re bringing our club to and it’s definitely a great privilege for me. I’m really looking forward to it.”
The club would like to thank the Healesville Football Club and the local Healesville community for opening their club to our players and staff and allowing us great access for our training camp and the club is excited to be heading out that way in February 2018.
