Second year youngster Connor Byrne has been added to Coburg’s starting XIII for Saturday’s match against Footscray at Whitten Oval, while first year players Harrison Nolan, Josh Weightman and Tom Condon are also added to the Lions’ extended interchange.
Byrne was one of the standouts for Balwyn in the EFL side’s close loss to Vermont last weekend, while Nolan and Weightman took on each other in for North Ringwood and East Ringwood respectively. Condon’s local side had a bye, but the forward put a strong showing forward on Good Friday for Strathmore in their round 1 encounter in the EDFL.
All 23 players from last Sunday’s defeat against Casey are included in the squad again, with Josh Iacobaccio, Josh Fox, Josh Guthrie, Tom Wallis and Jake Page included on the extended interchange.
Tall forward Max Mitchell-Russell will retain his place as the 23rd man after kicking a goal and showing positive signs around the goal face in last weekend’s match.
Saturday’s game against Footscray will start at 12pm at VU Whitten Oval, as both sides look to get their first win on the board for the 2018 Peter Jackson VFL season.
