Strong Performance in Defence Makes Harry Nolan Lion of the Round!

BY JACK KOVACIC.
Harry Nolan has been named the Post Office Hotel’s Round 8 Lion of the Round, following a strong performance in defence.
The young defender had 12 disposals to go with his five marks, six rebound 50s and eight spoils.
Nolan has now played five VFL games after coming to Coburg off the back of an outstanding season at TAC Cup level last year, and also representing Vic Metro.
He spent most of Saturday’s game lined up against AFL-listed players, and the 18 year old more than held his own against the bigger bodies.
“I needed to lock down the deepest key forward and help get our structure set up as I was often the furthest back and could see everything,” Nolan said.
“I think I played pretty well and played my role for the team.”
He rates his biggest strength as his speed, endurance and 1-on-1 contests, while he knows he still has plenty of other ways to improve his game.
“Something I want to improve about my game is making quicker and better decisions with the ball.”
Nolan is just five games into his VFL career but has already developed his understanding of his own game.
“I’ve learnt a lot more about my positioning off the ball and running patterns when we’re in offence.”
While the Lions are still currently without a win in 2018, Nolan is seeing plenty of improvement in the group with lots of positives to take out of the season so far.
“If we can play the style of footy that we’ve been working on and training then we can do some real damage to quality teams.”
Nolan and the Lions won’t play this week due to the bye but will next week take on Essendon in Round 10.
