It was a mix of results for our Local Lions this past weekend, as a number of players represented their respective local clubs in some great victories while others suffered defeat.
In the Essendon District Football League (EDFL), Tom Wallis and Lachie Mitchell paired up for Essendon Doutta Stars in their clash with Maribyrnong Park, going down by 63 points. Wallis was named among the Doutta Stars’ best players, with his run and decision making by foot a highlight.
It was a much closer match for Tom Condon and Strathmore however it would result in a three-goal loss to Keilor. Condon managed two majors for his side. Jay O’Donoghue returned to Coburg City Oval, this time with Glenroy, as the visitors were able to overrun West Coburg by seven goals. O’Donoghue’s efforts saw him named in Glenroy’s best.
Lastly in the EDFL, Moonee Valley was too strong for Brad Bernacki and East Sunbury, losing by 40 points; Bernacki featured among the best on ground.
Moving to the Eastern Football League, Lions trio Jack Sandric, Adam Swierzbiolek and Sam Lowson fronted up for East Ringwood against Noble Park, while Alex Mioni and Norwood took on Doncaster. Swierzbiolek booted two goals to go with Lowson’s one in their 31-point win, while Mioni (one goal) was listed as one of Norwood’s better players in their 23-point loss.
In the Northern Football League, Josh Iacobaccio and Daman Aujla came out 62-point victors in their match against Montmorency. Iacobaccio managed to win plenty of the ball, while Aujla managed two goals. However Aidan Tilley and West Preston-Lakeside suffered a three-goal defeat at the hands of Macleod.
Over in the Southern Football and Netball League, Josh Fox and Cheltenham escaped with a three-point win over St Kilda City. Fox kicked two crucial goals in the narrow victory.
In the Ovens & Murray Football League, Logan Morey transferred back to his old club Yarrawonga but couldn’t get the win over Albury; going down by three goals, while in the Goulburn Valley Football League, Jack Murphy returned to Seymour but suffered a six-goal defeat to Euroa. Murphy kicked one goal and was named in the best on ground for his side.
