Local League Lions: Round 17

BY BROOKE VARNEY.

With Coburg FC coming off the back of a bye, this past weekend meant there were many opportunities for Lions to present themselves at the local level.
Starting with the Northern Football League, Josh Iacobaccio and Daman Aujla paired up for Bundoora, taking on Lachlan Wilson and Heidelberg. Despite Aujla’s two goals and Iacobaccio’s one, Heidelberg was too strong and finished 13-point winners. Wilson booted one for the Tigers, while Aujla and Iacobaccio were named among the Bulls’ better players.
Aidan Tilley featured in West Preston-Lakeside’s 16-point upset victory over Macleod, with Tilley managing one goal and listed as one of the Roosters best.
Sam Binion and Montmorency were also successful in their clash against Northcote Park, leading the match from start to finish and recording a five-goal victory.
In the Southern Football Netball League, Max Mitchell-Russell and Port Melbourne Colts went up against Josh Fox and Cheltenham, with the latter storming home 90-point victors. Fox booted six goals for his side and was named among the best-on-ground, while Mitchell-Russell managed three.
Moving to the Eastern Football League, Jack Sandric and East Ringwood suffered a six-goal defeat at the hands of Balwyn, while in the Goulburn Valley Football League, Jack Murphy and Seymour were beaten by 55-points by Shepparton. Murphy was named among the best-on-ground for his efforts.
Over in the Ballarat Football League, Mitch Conn returned to Sunbury to take on Darley, going down by 44 points. Lachlan Watkins also played his part for Melton South, falling to North Ballarat City by three goals.
To round up the weekend, in the EDFL Brad Bernacki and East Sunbury led all day against the Northern Saints but were pipped at the end, going down by just a single point. Bernacki was named as one of the better players.
This week Coburg take on Werribee at Piranha Park for White Ribbon Round, to help promote the prevention of violence against women in Australia.
The first bounce will be at 2pm this Saturday, in what will be the Lions’ second-last home match of the season.
