Coburg continue to further make inroads with adding the recent crop of Calder Cannon graduates from 2018, with Jack Evans the recent recruit to put pen to paper.
Standing at 186cm, Evans was in good personal form with the Cannons and represented Vic Metro in the Under 18 championships, before his season was disrupted due to a serious shoulder injury. He would return late in the season where he would play in Calder’s ill-fated wildcard playoff loss to the Geelong Falcons. Overall, he would manage 12 games 2018.
Evans, who played his junior football with EDFL clubs Strathmore & Aberfeldie, managed 17 games for the Cannons in 2017. Evans is best suited to roles in the backline or midfield, however he can also play up forward where he was tried with Vic Metro in 2018 and has gained a reputation for his toughness and courage.
GM Sebastian Spagnuolo was pleased to welcome another Cannon to the club of Evans’ calibre.
“As soon as Jack joined our squad for preseason training we noticed his professionalism and motivation levels were really high for such a young man. Jack’s 2018 season wouldn’t have gone the way he’d have liked due to his shoulder injury but even in a disappointing season he still managed to play for Vic Metro at under 18 level which is testament to his outstanding character.”
“We see Jack as a long term player for us and given his speed being a great weapon for him, it’s possible that he can play across a range of positions across defence, midfield and as a forward, which provides our coaches with great flexibility and Jack with great opportunity,” Spagnuolo said.
