Coburg have added considerable state league experience to their 2019 squad with the addition of Jack Baker.
Originally from Pambula on the Sapphire Coast of New South Wales, Baker was a former member of the GWS Giants Canberra Academy where he was a Captain, and represented the NSW/ACT Rams in the 2012 National Under 18 Championships.
Baker then made his NEAFL debut with Belconnen, managing 15 games from 2012-14 in a three year period. Baker would remain with Belconnen following the withdrawal of their NEAFL licence at the end of 2014, playing in the AFL Canberra competition for 2015.
Baker would return to the NEAFL with the Canberra Demons for 2016, where he has managed 30 games. He returned late in the 2018 season following a serious knee injury suffered in 2017.
GM Sebastian Spagnuolo was delighted to have secured the services of the experienced defender.
“When we learned that Jack was moving to Melbourne we were keen to get him into the club for a look given his age and experience at NEAFL level in Canberra over the past 5-6 years.”
“Jack is coming off a serious knee injury but through the last two trial games we’ve seen a tough defender that makes himself hard to beat in one on one contests. At 191cms he’s suited to a 2nd or 3rd key defender type of role and we’re excited to have him on board for 2019,” said Spagnuolo.
