Local Lions Report – Round 2

While the Lions were gallant in defeat at Avalon Airport Oval against Werribee on Saturday Night, there were plenty of Coburg players that pressed their claims for a spot in Coburg’s round 3 side to take on Frankston on Easter Sunday.
 
Essendon District Football League
Jackson McDonald & Jack Sandric fronted up for Glenroy against Avondale Heights at Canning Reserve. Sandric managed a goal, however it wasn’t enough for Glenroy as they went down by 14 points.
Jack Evans also managed a goal in Aberfeldie’s win in the Premier Reserves competition over Airport West, while Lucas Cavallaro would sit out with Strathmore scheduled to play their round two game this Good Friday against Keilor.
Northern Football League
Round two of the Northern Football League Division One competition saw Alex Federico and Matt Harman front up for West Preston-Lakeside against Northcote Park & Tyson Old. Harman may have been named in the best for the Roosters however Old’s Cougars were too strong in the end notching up a 38-point win. Harry Simington represented MacLeod as they went down to Montmorency by 8 points which saw Jack Baker make his Macleod debut too after coming off injury. Hedley Smith’s Fitzroy Stars had the bye in Division Two.
Eastern Football League
The Eastern Football League would see Xavier Fry play for North Ringwood as they went down to Norwood by 63 points in Division One. In Division Two, Tom Meagher was named amongst Upper Ferntree Gully’s better players, however it wasn’t enough as they fell short by one point against East Ringwood having launched a comeback in the final quarter.
Ovens & Murray Football League
The Ovens & Murray Football League saw Will Donaghey & Floyd Bollinghaus’ Wodonga Raiders notch up their first win of the season, a 37-point victory over Yarrawonga, with Bollinghaus managing a goal.
 
Ballarat Football League
Lachie Watkins represented Melton South and was named in their better players in their 52 point loss to crosstown rivals Melton.
VAFA
And lastly in the VAFA Premier competition, St.Bernard’s made it two from two with a 40-point-win over Old Carey in a rematch of the 2018 Premier B Grand Final, with Luke Di Lizio managing two crucial goals in the process.
