Local League Lions: Good Friday edition
With the Easter long weekend seeing most of our players not selected for VFL duties having a rest with no local football, there were a few who fronted up with their local clubs on Good Friday.
The annual EDFL Premier Division clash between Strathmore and Keilor at Lebanon Reserve saw Lucas Cavallaro front up for the Mores, however Keilor were too strong eventually winning by three goals.
At the Benalla Showgrounds, Jack Murphy returned to Seymour for its Good Friday clash with competition powerhouse Benalla. He proved prominent in kicking two goals and being named among his side’s best players, however the Lions would go down by 27 points.
Lastly, Will Donaghey and Floyd Bollinghaus again paired up for the Wodonga Raiders at the Lavington Sports Ground, as they took on crosstown rivals and premiership contenders Lavington under lights. Unfortunately, the Raiders would suffer a 60-point loss, however Donaghey would be one of their better performers being named their second-best player and kicking two goals in the process.
Stay tuned for next weeks local report with most local competitions back in action with some ANZAC Day footy, while our VFL team will take on Box Hill away in our traditional annual ANZAC Day game.
