Local League Lions Round Four- Anzac Day
Round Four’s Local League Lions saw plenty of Lions return to action with their local clubs following their weekend off due to the Easter Long Weekend, with a few of them representing their home clubs on ANZAC Day.
VAFA Premier Division
St.Bernards and Luke Di Lizio continued its unbeaten start to the season with a huge 52-point win over De La Salle, with Di Lizio managing two goals in the process. Luke has started the season with 7 goals from his 3 games and is growing into his new role as a forward.
Essendon District Football League
The annual ANZAC Day clash between Glenroy and Strathmore saw Jack Sandric, Jackson McDonald and Jay O’Donoghue come up against Lucas Cavallaro and Ben Reddicka t Sewell Reserve as both teams were looking to notch their first win of the season. Strathmore managed a 53-point win with Cavallaro kicking a goal in the process while McDonald and Sandric were both prominent all day for the Roys. O’Donoghue and Reddick both did well having both come back from injury.
Northern Football League
ANZAC Day saw Heidelberg featuring Fletcher Carroll come up against MacLeod which featured Jack Baker at Warringal Park. Carroll managed a goal in the process as Heidelberg continued its impressive start to the season with a 53-point win.
Over at Main Street, Hedley Smith’s Fitzroy Stars went up against Thomastown in Division Two where they narrowly felt short by 11-points. Smith did his chances of a VFL debut no harm kicking two goals and being named in the best.
Saturday’s action saw Tyson Old and Northcote Park continue its unbeaten start to the season disposing of Hustrbridge by 57 points. Old managed two goals and was named in the best, pushing his claims further for a VFL debut. Over at Shelly Reserve, Alex Federico and Matt Harman again featured for West Preston-Lakeside but suffered its third loss in succession, going down to North Heidelberg by 59 points.
Ballarat Football League
Lachlan Watkins fronted up for Melton South as they took on Sunbury under lights at Clarke Oval on Saturday. Watkins managed a goal as the Panthers went down by 21 points.
Goulburn Valley Football League
Jack Murphy again fronted for Seymour and again was a key contributor as the Lions romped to a huge 64-point win over Euroa.
Ovens and Murray Football League
Floyd Bollinghaus and Will Donaghey both hit the scoreboard in the Raiders huge win over arch rivals Wodonga Bulldogs on ANZAC Day, with Bollinghaus kicking a team high two goals and Donaghey managing one.
