Local League Lions: Round Nine
Round Nine saw plenty of Lions look to make the most of their footy prior to the long weekend bye.
AFL Victoria Young Guns
Mohammed Saad once again represented the City team in the second game of the AFL Young Guns series at North Port Oval. Unfortunately for Saad, he hurt his hamstring ending his day early.
VAFA Premier Division
Luke Di Lizio kicked a goal as St.Bernards returned to the winners list with a 22-point win over Old Brighton at Murphy Oval.
Liam Whelan also managed a goal in Old Trinity’s 32-point loss to Old Melburnians at Elsternwick Park.
EDFL
Lucas Cavallaro was a solid contributor and managed a goal for Strathmore in it’s 39-point win over Airport West.
Jonty Neaves, Jack Sandric and Jay O’Donoghue all fronted up for Glenroy in its 26-point loss to Essendon Doutta Stars.
Northern Football League
Mark Baker played in MacLeod’s five-point loss to Hurstbridge. Mark competed well in the ruck and in the forward line.
Fletcher Carroll and Tyson Old went head-to-head, both managing a goal each- however it was Heidelberg who took the honours over Northcote Park with a 65-point win.
Aidan Tilley, Alex Federico and Matt Harman all contributed for West Preston-Lakeside, as they got off the bottom of a ladder with a big 93-point win over Lower Plenty. Tilley managed 3 goals while Federico was once again named amongst the Roosters best players.
In Division 2, Hedley Smith managed 2 crucial goals as the Fitzroy Stars continue to climb up the ladder, with a 13-point win over Epping.
Eastern Football League
Tom Meagher featured for Upper Ferntree Gully in its one-point win over Bayswater.
While most Lions not selected for VFL duty will enjoy a weekend off due to the Queens Birthday long weekend, stay tuned for the team selection ahead of our Round Ten clash with the Northern Blues at Preston City Oval this Sunday at 2pm, with both clubs paying tribute to the past by wearing tribute guernseys.
