Round 15’s VFL bye week gave many Lions another opportunity to press claims for selection at VFL level in the run home, but it also gave some an opportunity to return to their home club for a week.
Essendon District Football League
Glenroy moved a step closer to securing Premier Division status for 2020 with a narrow six-point win over Avondale Heights at Sewell Reserve, with Jack Sandric, Jay O’Donoghue and Jonty Neaves all contributing to the win. Neaves managed a goal while Sandric continued his consistency being named in the best. In the first half, O’Donoghue suffered a game ending neck injury which will be assessed over the coming days.
In Division One Tye Browning and Craigieburn continued its winning ways, with a 65-point win over Taylors Lakes at DS Aitken Reserve. Browning again was named amongst the best players and this week will be a candidate to replace Mark Baker as Coburg’s 23rdman.
Northern Football League
Tyson Old and Braedyn Gillard went head to head as Northcote Park took on Montmorency at the Bill Lawry Oval. Montmorency won by 35 points in a low scoring encounter.
Mo Saad had a day out for MacLeod, as they continued their winning ways with an 18-point win over Bundoora at DeWinton Reserve. Saad managed 5 goals and was named best on ground.
West Preston-Lakeside romped to a 47-point win over Lower Plenty, with Aidan Tilley making a quick return from finger surgery kicking three goals and being named amongst the best players. Matthew Harman also showed solid signs in the ruck.
In Division Two Hedley Smith returned to Fitzroy Stars managing a goal, but it wasn’t enough as they went down to Thomastown by 58 points at Sir Douglas Nicholls Reserve.
Eastern Football League
Tom Meagher appeared in Upper Ferntree Gully’s loss to Mooroolbark at home.
Xavier Fry appeared in North Ringwood’s under 19s again, kicking a goal as they went down to Noble Park by 32 points.
The VAFA and the Ovens and Murray Football League’s both had a bye week this weekend due to the VAFA’s representative game against a Vic Country representative side.
