Local League Lions: Round Nineteen

Local League Lions: Round Nineteen
The weekends action at local level was a wet one, but it didn’t stop our Lions from putting their best foot forward as we head towards the end of the season.

VAFA Premier Division
It was Luke Di Lizio’s 50thgame of Senior VAFA football when St.Bernard’s took on De La Salle at Waverley, but it wasn’t the result they were hoping for, going down by nine points.

Essendon District Football League
Jonty Neaves fronted up for Glenroy against Pascoe Vale at Raeburn Reserve- the Roys were gallant in defeat losing by 13 points to the third placed Panthers.
Ben Reddick and Lucas Cavallaro fronted up for Strathmore as they kept its finals hopes alive with a narrow 7-point win over Maribyrnong Park at Lebanon Reserve. The Mores sit in 5thplace on percentage behind Greenvale.

Northern Football League
Northcote Park with Tyson Old came up against MacLeod with Brodie Foster, Harry Simington, Mo Saad and Jack Baker at the Bill Lawry Oval. It was Old and Northcote Park that were too good in the end with a 16-point win. Saad managed three of MacLeod’s six goals for the game and was named in the best along with Foster.
Hedley Smith earned best on ground honours in Fitzroy Star’s 29-point win over Epping at the Sir Douglas Nicholls Oval. Smith also managed two goals.

Eastern Football League
Three goals in a best-on-ground performance for Tom Meagher saw Upper Ferntree Gully edge closer to a finals appearance in an eight-point win over Bayswater.

Expect many more Lions to make appearances in Round 20’s bye this weekend. Our last game for the season in Round 21 will take place on Saturday August 24 when we take on Footscray at Piranha Park, with the first bounce at 12:30PM. Not only will this be our last game of the season but the last game at Piranha Park as we currently know it until the 2021 season with redevelopments taking place throughout the 2020 season.
