Local League Lions: Week 2 Finals
Our VFL season may be over but we still have some listed players playing local footy in search of a local level Premiership.
Essendon District Football League
Lucas Cavallaro and Ben Reddick fronted up for Strathmore’s elimination final against Pascoe Vale at Coburg’s Piranha Park. In the wet conditions the Mores were too good, keeping Pascoe Vale to only 1 goal, and setting themselves up with a preliminary final showdown against rivals Aberfeldie, who went down by 14 points to Keilor.
Tye Browning had the week off, with Cragieburn watching on to reveal their Grand Final opponent, as East Keilor defeated Tullamarine in the Preliminary Final. Browning’sEagles will play the Cougars this Saturday at Windy Hill with the winner gaining promotion to Premier Division.
Northern Football League
Heidelberg with Fletcher Carroll and West Preston-Lakeside with Aidan Tilley both faced off against each other in the second semi-final. It was the reigning Premiers the Roosters who got the jump on the Tigers, winning by 46 points and restricting Heidelberg to 3 goals for the game, making it four goals conceded in two games so far this finals series. Tilley kicked three, while Carroll was named amongst the best. West Preston will now play a Preliminary Final against North Heidelberg, who lost to Greensborough on Saturday in the first semi-final.
Riddell District Football League
Billy Cannolo and Rupertswood watched on as Wallan won their way through to a Grand Final, knocking out Diggers Rest in the process. Rupertswood and Wallan will face off against each other in this Sunday’s RDFL Grand Final at Sunbury’s Clarke Oval.
Stay tuned for what could possibly be the last edition of Local League Lions for the 2019 season, as we hope to write about a few Premiership victories for our players.
