GUN FORWARD JOINS THE LIST OF RE-SIGNED LIONS

By Daniel Foley

Sam Lowson will remain a Lion after re-signing with the Coburg Football Club for the 2022 season.

The exciting small forward ended the season with 17 goals, finishing second in the goalkicking for Coburg. The 25-year-old played in every match and kicked multiple goals on seven occasions.

Lowson’s best came against Carlton in Round 12 with four goals in a Lion of the Round performance at the club’s first game back at Piranha Park.

The new deal takes him into his sixth season at Coburg. Lowson joined the club in 2017 and made his debut in Round 8 of that year after impressing in the Development League.

Lowson said he is excited for 2022 and believes that the club could achieve some great things next year.

“I think we were building something good this year and obviously things didn’t really turn out the way we wanted, but I think we’re not far off the mark and another year of continuity between the boys will do massive things for us winning more games,” he said.

“This year got cut short and it’s a bit depressing to only get to play 10 games especially coming off injury the years before and COVID, so I’m so excited to get back into it. For once I’m actually looking forward to preseason.”

Senior coach Andrew Sturgess said the club is stoked to have Lowson back on board in 2022.

“Sam has clearly grown as a player in his time with the club to the point where most people would agree he has what it takes to play AFL, however the most pleasing thing for me is his growth as a person and his love for the Coburg Football Club,” he said.

“He has a deep and genuine respect for the history of our football club and is committed to ensuring he continues to make it a better environment and a successful club into the future.”

“Coburg is Sam’s home, and we are so proud and fortunate to have a person like him as one of ours.”
