The Coburg Football Club has continued to lock away its core group for next season re-signing Mitch Podhajski for 2022.
The 22-year-old had another strong season at Piranha Park in 2021, playing in all ten matches and kicking 13 goals.
Podhajski was able to both win contested ball and have an impact on the scoreboard, averaging 16.6 disposals and 6.2 marks with a high of 23 possessions against Brisbane in Round 3.
After kicking three goals in the opening game against Frankston, Podhajski went on to kick multiple goals on another three occasions. The matches against Brisbane and the Bullants were the only games were he didn’t kick a goal.
Podhajski made his debut for Coburg in 2018, playing for both Calder Cannons and the Lions. He then played his first full season in the VFL the next year where he won the Phil Cleary Rising Star Award and managed 17 goals from 18 games.
Senior coach Andrew Sturgess was stoked to have Podhajski recommit for the 2022 season.
“Mitch continues to grow his game year on year and play selfless roles for the team,” he said.
“I think his best footy is still yet to be played and I know with a big preseason he aims to take the next step of consolidating a place in our midfield.”
“While still young in age, he is looked upon as a leader within our club for how he carries himself both on and off the field and we look forward to him continuing to do that in 2022 and beyond.”
