PIRANHA PARK BECOMES EDYN’S GARDEN

The Coburg Football Club has improved its key forward stocks with the signing of Edyn Sibbald on a two-year deal.

The 199cm tall forward has played 13 VFL matches and joins the Lions from Werribee and St Bernard’s after previously being on Essendon’s VFL list in 2018 and 2019.

Sibbald played seven matches for St Bernard’s in the VAFA in 2021 and kicked 10 goals.

The 25-year-old said he is looking forward to getting to know the team, coaches, and staff at Coburg.

“It’s exciting to be given the opportunity to join a club like Coburg who are committed to both on-field and off-field success,” he said.

“I hope I can bring value to what the club is looking to achieve in 2022 and hopefully be a part of something special.”

“It’s hard not to look forward to playing next year after two heavily interrupted seasons.”

Sibbald, who has impressed with his athletic ability and agility, hopes to provide some excitement for Lions members in the forward line next year.

“[I’m looking forward to] hopefully getting involved up forward and sitting on a few heads in the process … everyone loves a hanger,” he said.

General Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo said Sibbald was a special talent who had suffered injury setbacks but was capable of being a very good forward in the VFL.

“Key forwards don’t come along often at VFL level, so we are very happy to have secured Edyn’s services as a contracted player for 2022 and 2023,” he said.

“Once the 2021 season ended we set out to increase and improve the club’s key position and ruck stocks and Edyn is a person that we targeted pretty early as we have enjoyed seeing what he’s done at VAFA level in recent years.”

“At 25-years-old, Edyn is another that will provide maturity, senior football experience and a desire to get the best out of himself and others around him.”
