Thomas charges into Coburg

Coburg has continued to add to its list for the 2022 VFL season signing 19-year-old Dylan Thomas.

The Oakleigh Chargers product played seven matches in the NAB League Boys in 2021 and kicked eight goals.

Thomas had previously played one game for Oakleigh in 2019 as a 16-year-old.

The 187cm forward also made his VFL debut this year, earning a spot after kicking six goals in the first three games for the Chargers, to play for Collingwood in Round 2 against Essendon.

In May, Thomas was named in the Metro squad for the annual Victorian Young Guns showcase which displays the state’s best Under 23 talent.

Thomas said he was excited at the chance to sign with the Coburg Football Club.

“It’s a nice opportunity to play for a great club, just really looking forward to it, meeting everyone and earning the respect of teammates,” he said.

“I just had a look at the ground for the first time and it’s pretty wide and I’m a pretty fast kind of ball carrier and obviously it’s pretty wide so I’m looking forward to getting out on that ground.”

“I like to hopefully bring some excitement to the fans, ball carrying and kicking goals.”

Club General Manger Sebastian Spagnuolo said Thomas was an exciting player with great kicking skills.

“We watched Dylan over the course of the 2021 season with Oakleigh and really like the way he takes the game on. There’s definitely some x-factor and class in the way he plays,” he said.

“When Dylan gets his chance to play for Coburg, our members will notice his speed and excellent left foot skills as either a forward or as a player that can run and carry the ball out of the backline.”
