Coburg has made a small number of changes to its line-ups for this weekend’s preliminary finals against Mornington and Bass Coast.
Phoebe Chisholm makes her return to the senior side for the first time since suffering a broken leg in early May. However, despite the positive news for Chisholm there are two forced outs with Tash Phipps and Brittney Gray.
The are no inclusions to the development side although Volk and Cavanagh come out of the side.
The seniors take on Mornington for a place in the Premier Division grand final against Seaford next weekend. Mornington finished third on the ladder and defeated Frankston in an elimination final last week 6.9 (45) to 2.11 (23).
Coburg faced off against Mornington three times this season and won all the three matches to claim the North-South Cup. However, the latest instalment in Round 12 was a thrilling encounter that resulted in a close seven-point victory. The Lions were four points down at three quarter time but stepped up in the final term to hit the front.
Despite having more scoring shots, the team had a narrow loss to Seaford 3.7 (25) to 4.4 (28) in the qualifying final last week.
Eloise Gardner was Lion of the Round after playing a major role intercepting in defence.
Maddie Edwards also had a huge game with 28 possessions, 15 tackles and 8 clearances while Tegan Brett was dangerous up forward again with two goals.
The development team plays Bass Coast, who they have a 2-0 record against this season.
Bass Coast finished fourth but had a thrilling win over third placed Karingal in the elimination final 7.1 (43) to 6.5 (41).
The Lions suffered a 27-point loss in the qualifying final, 1.2 (8) to 5.5 (35), against Warragul the only team that it has lost to so far this season. Ella Menzies was the Lions’ best for her hard work throughout the whole match.
