The Coburg Football Club wishes to advise club members and supporters of the appointment of Thomas Chitsos to the role of Senior Women’s Coach, replacing outgoing and inaugural Women’s Coach Liam Cavanagh.
Chitsos joined the Lions in the leadup to the 2022 season as the team’s Midfield Coach and as Assistant to Liam Cavanagh and quickly earned the trust and respect of the playing group.
The club has provided Thomas with a two year agreement for him to become the Senior Coach of the Women’s program at Coburg.
Coburg CEO Sebastian Spagnuolo said of Chitsos’ appointment “With such an influential and driven person like Liam Cavanagh departing from the role and the club, we worked quickly with collaboration from Liam himself and also with the views of the playing group in mind to make the move to appoint Tom for the next two seasons. This is Tom’s first ever Senior Coach role and the club will provide as much support to him in his role as possible. As a club we are very fortunate to have Tom take the reins as it will create much needed continuity for our playing group which is very important for us. We look forward to the start of Tom’s tenure as Senior Coach of our Women’s program when the 2023 preseason begins later this year. “
Upon his promotion to the role of Senior Coach, Chitsos said, “It’s a massive honour to have been trusted with this role to lead our Women’s program moving forward. I have to give a huge thanks to Seb, Cav and the club’s Board for having faith in me, I’m definitely not taking this opportunity for granted. Last season was a fantastic experience for myself as an Assistant. I was able to learn so much from all our coaches and players and definitely wouldn’t be ready for this step up if it wasn’t for all of their support. We have an extremely talented and youthful playing list that showed rapid signs of improvement last year in both our Senior and Development teams. I’m determined to make sure next year is no different and can’t wait to see how our players continue to grow both individually and collectively. The culture we have at Coburg is what makes our program so special and I can’t wait to continue building on that in the upcoming 2023 season.”
