The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is pleased to welcome Coburg Football Club into the VAFA women’s competition for the 2023 season.
With 130 years of history, Coburg Football Club will further strengthen women’s football in the VAFA and will add to the strong presence of VAFA women’s football teams in the northern suburbs including Therry Penola, West Brunswick, Brunswick and North Brunswick.
CEO of the VAFA, Jason Reddick said:
“Having conducted an extensive due diligence process including consultation with many of our clubs, we are delighted to welcome Coburg Football Club into our VAFA women’s competition.”
“A respected and historical club, we are confident that the Coburg teams will make a great contribution to our Association as we continue to grow the women’s competition which proudly stands as the largest in Australia.”
Transferring from the South Eastern Women’s Football League, the club will be entering two teams into the VAFA competition next season.
Coburg Football Club CEO Sebastian Spagnuolo says the club is really looking forward to beginning their journey as a VAFA club.
“We are very excited to have our women’s teams joining such a strong and prestigious league that the VAFA is and has always been. As a club we have enjoyed two seasons in the South Eastern Women’s Football League and we are so appreciative of that league giving us the opportunity to compete in it, however this announcement is fantastic for our players and volunteers who will enjoy being part of a competition that is more local to Coburg.”
“Our Coach Thomas Chitsos has already been explaining to our playing group the significance of this announcement and we as a club will enter the VAFA full of respect of the Association, clubs and the history of the competition.”
Coburg Football Club will be competing in the William Buck Premier Women’s competition for season 2023.
