Lions travel down the highway for showdown with seagulls

Friday afternoon’s game against Williamstown will be the side’s first game against a fellow
non-affiliated club for the year and first since round 21 last year against Frankston.

Last time they met –
The two sides last met in Round 4 2023 when Williamstown won by 54 points. Despite being
only 16 points down at half time, Williamstown kicked away in the third quarter scoring
seven goals four to nothing and putting any hopes of a Coburg comeback to bed.

Flynn Gentile was one of Coburg’s best, with the Airport West product having 19 touches
and laying 12 tackles in what was a tough day for Jamie Cassidy McNamara’s side.
Aaron Clarke ,Sam Mason and Daniel Johnston were still able to hit the scoreboard with two
each on a day where goals were hard to come by.

Ins and Outs –
Coburg will make three changes to the side that played Sydney at Tramway oval five days
ago. Ryan Sturgess comes in for his first game for the year, with the former Northern Knight
hoping to add to the backline. Caleb Ernst and Ben Thomson will play their first game
for the year with Sam Grant, Daniel Johnston and Luke Bailey all being omitted.

Key Players to watch
After a strong performance against Sydney last week, Joel Trudgeon will be looking to back
it up again this week against the Seagulls. The former hawk and prized off season recruit
recorded 28 disposal and eight marks in the loss to Swans last week.

Following two goals in last weeks clash with the Swans Liam Serong will be
looking to hit the scoreboard again at Highgate Recreation Reserve along with Will
Bella who kicked two majors in round one.

100 Games for Rigga –
Friday’s game against Williamstown will mark the 100th game for Captain Jesse Corigliano at
the Coburg Lions. The Strathmore junior joined the club in 2015 and has been one of the
club’s most consistent players since culminating in being selected in the 2019 VFL team of
the year and winning the 2022 Jim Sullivan best and fairest.
