Juniors adding to the clubs resurgence
The introduction of the Coburg Junior Football Club has been critical to the club’s revival.
So far in 2016, the club has incorporated two teams- an under 8’s side in the ‘Black’ division, as well as an under 10’s side merged with established EDFL club Keilor Park, in the division 8 competition.
Prior to the TV game being played on Sunday, the Juniors had their games which resulted in them staying around for the big clash with Richmond.
Dave, whose son Jacob plays in the Under 8’s team, were invited to the Presidents Bruncheon which consisted of the Channel Seven VFL commentary team of Nigel Carmody, Jason Bennett and Campbell Brown. Jacob was also interviewed at the Bruncheon by the team and were allowed on the ground as well as being let in the rooms with the players after the game.
Dave was immensely grateful for the opportunity given to his son and his teammates for the day, and said “the kids had such an amazing time and it brought back the old days where footy clubs embraced the junior kids getting involved. The kids were in awe of the players and the experience. So proud of the club for allowing us to take part, I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting hounded to attend all the remaining games for the season.”
General Manager Craig Lees says “Dave has just captured exactly why we wanted to start a junior football club. We appreciate the feedback and knowing that his experience with the juniors has been a positive one. We also look forward to providing the opportunity again throughout the remainder of the season.”
While the junior program has been a success in 2016 with its two sides, we hope that the club can build on it in 2017, with junior numbers increasing meaning more teams representing the club.
