Coburg are pleased to announce that speedster Ryan Exon will join the club for the 2017 season from Frankston.
The 2012 Oakleigh Chargers Premiership captain and 2013 Box Hill Premiership player, who stands at 183 centimeters is a rebounding defender who is also capable of playing on the oppositions small forwards, however can also play either as a winger or an inside midfielder.
Exon won the Oakleigh Chargers best and fairest in 2012, where they won the TAC Cup premiership by a point in extra time.
He would join the Box Hill Hawks for 2013, and despite only having played four senior games throughout the season, would get the call up as 23rd man for the Grand Final, as Box Hill upset Geelong in the decider by 21 points. However, in the next two seasons, Exon would add little to that senior game tally, managing a further 7 games.
Exon crossed to Frankston for 2016 and would play in seventeen senior games, the most of any of throughout his time in the VFL and was named among Frankston’s best eight times. While he was happy to stay at Frankston Park for 2017, Exon had little choice but to find a new home following what transpired after it’s well documented issues were made known in late August.
While he joins the likes of ex-team mates Tom Goodwin, Peter McEvoy and Patty Lawlor at Piranha Park, Exon can’t wait for what lies ahead in 2017.
“Obviously being at another stand-alone side last year, I guess everyone gets that equal opportunity, everyone is on a level playing field, and if my form is good enough to be playing seniors, then that’s hopefully where I’ll be. I’m looking forward to just testing myself and seeing if I can play at that level like I did,” said Exon.
List & Recruiting Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo was pleased that Exon chose Coburg as his home for season 2017.
“Ryan offers us great experience and leadership qualities. He’s a former captain at TAC Cup level and we’re most proud that he sees a bright future with Coburg having turned down other opportunities elsewhere,” Spagnuolo said.
“With almost 30 games at VFL level now, Ryan is looking to cement himself as a very good player in the competition and we look forward to helping him be the best player he can be.”
