Coburg’s on ball brigade featuring Captain Tom Goodwin, as well as Midfielders Liam Hunt and Nick Mellington have all been rewarded for their early season form, being selected in the initial 42-man Victorian State League squad to take on the WAFL on Saturday the 27th of May at North Port Oval. A final 23-man squad will be named leading up to the clash.
Goodwin, announced as Captain of the Lions prior to Round One and the clubs reigning Jim Sullivan Medallist, is one of three Ruckmen in the squad. Hunt, in his third season at the club has established himself as one of the club’s premier midfielders and Mellington has made an instant impact since arriving from Richmond at the end of the 2016 season. All three have caught the eye of the Victorian Selectors with their start to the season.
Ben Allan has also been named in the squad for ‘Talented Developing Players,’ where each club has one player nominated and will train with the squad to in order to aid their Development.
The club would also like to congratulate Coburg’s Derek McConn and Briana Martin-Bashtannyk who have also been selected to represent the VFL as High Performance Manager and Trainer respectively.
