Late Charge from Zebras Spoils Lions Day

The Coburg Seniors have been defeated by Sandringham in a disappointing final quarter of footy, finishing 14.5 (89) to 15.10 (100) at Piranha Park this afternoon.
Looking for their first win of the season, the Lions came out strong and fought hard for the ball, giving themselves a seven-point lead at quarter-time.
But despite putting the pressure on early and being 16 points up at the final change, the Zebras kicked 6-goals to Coburg’s 2 to get over the line and become 11-point successors.
Once the Zebras had started their charge they were hard to stop, and panicked fumbles from the Lions didn’t help.
Some promising signs from earlier in the day included uncontested marks, switching the play, and fast feet through the corridor, which made it easier for the Lions to get the ball inside their forward-50.
The Seniors were also accurate on goal, having not missed a shot from the 22nd minute of the first quarter to the 15th minute of the final quarter.
Hayden Blythe (16 disposals) and Hisham Kerbatieh (11 disposals) were exciting to watch, kicking three goals each, while Cameron Holdsworth slotted two and had 12 touches.
Nick Mellington led the way for disposals, recording 27, while other major ball-getters included Tom Cleary (20 touches), Blake Mullane (19 touches) and Connor Byrne (also 19 touches).
The Seniors will play against Essendon next Saturday afternoon at 1pm, so come down to Piranha Park with your family to show your support.
Hear the Lions Roar!
