This week, the Post Office Hotel’s Lion of the Round has been named as Keenan Posar, after his best-on-ground performance in Saturday’s loss to Essendon.
Posar, who managed to notch up 27 disposals and have 7 uncontested marks, felt that despite playing his role as he tries to every week, the defeat was a disappointing result and not what the team wanted.
“We need to start playing consistently through all four quarters, and we need to start playing the same high intensity, high pressure game we are capable of,” he said.
“As soon as we can do this we are going to be a massive chance to win every game we play.” Posar continued.
Going into his third season at Coburg, 2016 saw him redeem himself after an initial slow start to the year in the Development League.
He became one of the club’s most improved players, and had his hard work rewarded by being elevated to the Leadership Group this year; a huge benefit to the way he has played so far.
“It’s been the best thing for my footy, and I’ve probably got more confidence in myself than I ever have before which has helped both on and off field.”
“I’ve taken a bit more responsibility to perform which at the moment sees to be working too.”
This season, Posar hopes to continue working on his goal-kicking to have a greater scoreboard impact, and his contested marking which he feels has already improved from last year.
While there is a bye this week for the State Game, when Coburg takes on Casey Demons in round 7 Posar hopes to bring that high intensity effort.
“Besides the win I want our guys to make every inch and second of the game hard for the opposition.”
“As long as we can achieve that (playing with high intensity), we will start to put ourselves in the best position to win games.”
Coburg General Manager Seb Spagnuolo was also impressed with how Posar played on the weekend, and has found him to be a versatile player for the club.
“The fact Keenan can play in many roles has definitely made him a utility player that can be used at either end, as well as on the wing,” Spagnuolo said.
“He’s been able to find that balance of attack and defence which is again more proof that he’s starting to really implement his learnings over the past few seasons.”
“The coaches have definitely noticed that his commitment to the club and his training has gone to a new level in 2017.” our GM continued.
In the Development League, Head Coach Paul ‘PK’ Kennedy named Jesse Corigliano as Lion of the Round.
Corigliano recorded a game-high 31 disposals and kicked one goal, while also laying four tackles and going inside-50 four times.
