Coburg’s Development side have been defeated by 39 points by Casey Demons in a tough contest this morning at Casey Fields.
The Development Lions, despite managing to kick straight just couldn’t catch the Demons’ early lead, the final scores 11.1 (67) to 15.16 (106).
Nick Dodge was the sole Coburg goal-kicker in the first term, meaning the Lions went into quarter-time trailing by 22 points.
Two quick, consecutive goals to Tyler Curtis however started the second quarter well, and helped bring the margin back down to 10 points.
After half-time the Development Lions were looking to close the 20-point gap further, with peppered behinds from Casey helping keep them within reach.
Strong marks from the likes of Karl Brown and Daman Aujla in defence also helped save potential goals, but the Development Lions still had a big chase in front of them.
A fairly level final term saw each team kick four goals, with Casey’s early work giving them enough to secure the win.
Ben Barton and Nick Dodge each finished the day with three goals, while Tyler Curtis and George Romios bagged two each.
Matt Merlo led the way for possessions, recording 24 touches, followed closely by Pat Lawlor (21) and Alex Mioni (20).
Coburg’s Development side will now look to next week, when they take on Williamstown at Piranha Park, so be there from 11am to show your support for the Development boys.
