A quick burst of goals from the Casey Demons broke the chance of a Coburg comeback this afternoon at Casey Fields, going down by 44 points.
The Senior Lions courageously kept themselves in the game the entire day, but just couldn’t hold on towards the end, the final scores 6.6 (42) to 12.14 (86).
With the margin under 10 points at every break, it was shaping up to be a big final quarter.
And the Lions were ready to fight.
Casey used fast hands to gain possession of the ball and carry it down to their forward 50, but when the Coburg pressure was on in defence it was hard to get by them.
Sean Gregory, Jesse Corigliano, Josh Iacobaccio and debutant Mitch Conn all played important roles in the backline throughout the match, despite letting some goals slip through in the last term.
Across the centre Liam Hunt was on fire again, recording 31 touches, with help from Nick Mellington (20), Keenan Posar (18), James el Moussalli (18) and Ryan Exon (17).
Posar went on to kick two goals, with Hisham Kerbatieh also kicking two of his own early in the game.
A mighty effort from the Coburg Seniors, next week will see them return home to Piranha Park for their clash with Williamstown.
The first bounce will be at 2pm, so come down to get behind our Burgers in what will be their second last home game of the year!
Hear the Lions Roar!
