Coburg’s Development League side will take part in its final match on Saturday morning , in what will be the last AFL Victoria Development League round of the 2017 home-and-away season.
Despite the club’s preference be that the Development League continue into the 2018 season and beyond, AFL Victoria announced their decision to end it in July of this year.
Formerly known as the Victorian Football Association (VFA) Seconds, the competition began in 1928, which was also the first year Coburg fielded a reserves side.
The competition was later known as the VFA Reserves and VFL Reserves, before being rebranded as the AFL Victoria Development League in 2012.
In its 90-year history, Coburg’s reserves have won 18 premierships in Division 1; the most recent in 2012, defeating Box Hill by seven points.
Providing a pathway for players and staff to transition from Under 18’s to Senior VFL football, the AFL Victoria Development League will come to an end for Coburg on Saturday.
The club urges all of our loyal members, supporters, sponsors and family to come down to Burbank Oval, Williamstown on Saturday at 10am to give the competition the send-off it deserves.
