Coburg are delighted to announce the signing of Alex Federico from the Northern Blues.
Federico’s first year within the VFL system saw him add to the two VFL games he managed in 2017 while a 23rd man, managing nine games with the Blues, averaging 11 disposals & 6 contested possessions per game.
When not selected at VFL level, Federico would manage eleven games with the Northern Football League’s West Preston Lakeside, managing eleven games in the process. His form with the Roosters was promising, especially towards the back end of the season where he would be one of West Preston’s more consistent players in its finals campaign, topped off by a Premiership.
Previously, Federico had an outstanding 2017 season with the Knights in the TAC Cup, managing the Best & Fairest from ten games where he averaged 25 disposals and seven tackles per game. A big bodied in and under midfielder, Federico will relish the opportunity to further develop his game at Piranha Park in 2019 as he joins the likes of Luke Bunker, Marcus Lentini & Matt Harman, all whom he played with in the TAC Cup.
“I thought coming to Coburg would be a good change for me, obviously I’ve got a few mates here just like I did at the Blues and while I loved my time there, I thought I’d try something different in a stand-alone environment,” said Federico.
“Hopefully I’ll get a few games under my belt, and just really enjoy the VFL experience. Hopefully I’ll also manage to play well, but as far as I know there’s a really good group of boys down here.”
GM Sebastian Spagnuolo was wrapt to have secured the services of the young midfielder.
“We’re really excited to welcome Alex to our club. We were big fans of his during his days with the Knights in the TAC Cup in 2017, and when we heard that he might not have been returning to the Northern Blues for 2019 we were pretty quick to speak to him and pitch our club to him again,” said Spagnuolo.
“Alex is a quality person, and is another young player that will boost our midfield in 2019 and beyond. Given the relationships he has with our current former Knights players, we felt we were a great option for him to continue his VFL football journey with.”
