LIONS TO ROAR INTO NEW LOOK STATE LEAGUE COMPETITION

To our valued club members, players, staff, club partners and member of the wider Coburg FC family,

In our last update for you, we outlined the submission process that we’d have to go through to be accepted into the new look VFL/East Coast competition.

We are pleased to advise that the process has been completed and that it gives us great pleasure to announce to you all that our club’s submission has been successful and that we will be celebrating our 130th year anniversary as part of the competition.

With the information that we already know about the structure of the competition and with outstanding playing list and staff retention, we see great opportunity for our club to be successful from day 1 and thrive in the new look competition under Andrew Sturgess as our Senior Coach.

Full details about the new league, it’s name, it’s key corporate partners and the start date for the competition are due to be announced by the AFL over the coming weeks.

The confirmed teams in this new look competition are:
Standalone Second-Tier Clubs: Aspley, Coburg, Frankston, Northern Bullants, Port Melbourne, Southport, Werribee, Williamstown
Standalone AFL Clubs: Brisbane Lions, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Footscray, Geelong Cats, Gold Coast SUNS, GWS GIANTS, North Melbourne, Richmond, Sydney Swans
Aligned Clubs: Sandringham, Box Hill Hawks, Casey Demons

Our players and coaches can now turn their attention and concentration to the 2021 season with great anticipation and excitement that we will be competing in the biggest and best AFL Tier 2 competition in 2021.

Our team will be representing the suburb of Coburg on a more National level, which is a fantastic opportunity for our club to grow a wider audience too.

Now that we are aware and certain of our place in this new-look competition, we can not rest on our laurels. In fact we have to get to work pretty quickly.

For the club to continue to grow, we need our 2019 and 2020 members to re-commit for 2021, we need the Coburg community to get behind it’s team, we need our sponsors and corporate partners to re-commit for 2021 and we need to keep growing to be the successful club that we aim to be!

What can you do?

Once the 2021 membership campaign is launched, become a member, encourage your friends to become members and encourage your business network and contacts to get behind our great club too.

2020 has been the year for the message of “we are all in this together” and it’s true not only with the challenges of covid-19 but with our football club’s future too.

We all have a role to play to ensure the Coburg Football Club thrives into the future and brings success for it’s people and community.

In approximately mid-November, we will launch the club’s 2021 membership program and what you as our members are likely to see is added flexibility in the packages and a loyalty discount for our 2020 season members who renew their club membership for 2021.

Here’s a reminder of what’s happening in 2021:

  • We celebrate the club’s 130th year anniversary
  • Opening of the club’s new home ground facility including changerooms, player gym, grandstand, function and events facility and visitor amenities
