Tuesday 25th August 2020
To our valued club members, players, sponsors and supporters,
Firstly, I hope that everyone is doing well and remaining safe and healthy through the current Covid-19 restrictions in Victoria.
I write to you today to respond to a recent AFL media release as well as the subsequent online articles that have been published in the last 24 hours and have explained that the VFL and NEAFL football competitions are to merge in 2021.
As always when we have factual information that may impact our club both positively or otherwise, we will ensure that our members are as informed as possible, but as of right now we have no further information for you except for the fact that as a club we continue to be in conversation with the AFL and our fellow VFL clubs and once the review of the VFL competition is completed, we will be communicating the key outcomes to you at that point.
The AFL have been communicating with myself and Club President Matt Price since the 2020 VFL season was cancelled back in June, but further discussions are required to take place before we have any confirmed actions to communicate to our players, staff and members.
At Coburg, we respect that the AFL and it’s staff remain focused on the completion of the AFL’s 2020 season and we patiently await further direction from the AFL with regards to the future of the VFL competition.
Also as per other media reports yesterday, the AFL has finalised it’s own internal restructure and with that we await further information that is relevant to our club and competition.
For now, please continue to stay safe and healthy and we can not wait to see you all at the footy again in 2021!
Go the Lions!!
