Midfielder Hanna Fosbrooke and ruck/forward Natasha Phipps have recommitted to Coburg in the club’s first women’s re-signings.
Both players played important roles for the side during the team’s inaugural season and represented the club in all 10 SEWFL matches.
Phipps was the Lion of the Round in Round 4 with 23 hitouts and 10 disposals against Mornington while Fosbrooke was a part of the team’s leadership group in 2021.
Fosbrooke said she was super stoked to be signing on for 2022.
“I feel like I have so much more to give, and I’ve developed and learnt so much over the last year so I’m really excited to be given another year to keep that up and keep getting better,” she said. “We had such a strong inaugural season campaign and the season being struck with the COVID lockdowns really ruined our chances of properly proving to our oppositions that we are here to compete, and we are a team to be afraid of.”
Phipps said she is excited and quite humbled to be re-signing with Coburg.
“I had such an amazing year and have been so well supported to push myself and better my game,” she said. “It’s a really incredible atmosphere at the club and we have been able to create an inclusive and supportive culture that has allowed us all to thrive, develop and truly enjoy all aspects of footy.”
“We have some incredibly talented coaches, players and support staff and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve as a club in the coming year.”
Coach Liam Cavanagh said he was happy to re-sign two leaders of the side.
“I think it’s really promising to have the girls locked in who were integral in leading the group this year and I know that gives the rest of the group some confidence about the culture and direction of the side,” he said. “With Hanna I think it’s going to be exciting to see her benefit from the continuity of playing with the same side cause she’s been at a few different clubs now and I know she’s really enjoyed it with us.”
“Tash, she’s an incredibly hard-working player that sets a lot of standards for the rest of the group so I’m excited to have someone in of that quality for another season.”
