Senior coach Andrew Sturgess was pleased with the side’s 2022 intraclub and that the team was able to come away with no major injuries.
“It was a good hit out and competitive, the game that we played up here last year I think it was a goal the difference and today was ten points the difference. Blue had the majority of play in the first half and then white made a couple of adjustments and probably controlled more of the second half and come home pretty strong as well,” he said.
“Intraclubs can sometimes be hard to judge, and we had a lot of top-ups as well today so our structures might have been a little bit out of place at times but all in all I think the main thing is we got a good hit out, good load into the guys, and no serious injuries.”
Sturgess said that while he often doesn’t look at games from an individual perspective, Luke Bunker, Corey Ellis and Josh D’Intinosante (four goals) were some of the standouts from the match.
“Luke Bunker through the midfield for the blue team was fantastic, Corey Ellis for the white team in the midfield after a pretty interrupted year last year with injury and covid interruptions, I thought his preseason and then his form in the practice games to this point has been fantastic.”
Sturgess also said the team is excited to play against competition for the first time in 2022 this Saturday against Frankston.
“The last game we played was late July, so it’s been a long lay off for these guys and a long grind for not just the preseason but before that they had to stay ready just in case our season got back underway last year,” he said.
“I think they’re just really itching at the bit to play some completive football, get a better run at it this year and we get to sort of do that against Frankston.”
