Local League Lions: Round 19

As we approach the home stretch of the 2022 season, many Lions continued to put in impressive performances at local level.

VAFA

Ben Overman once again was named in the best for St. Bernards, however they fell to Old Scotch by 47-points away at the Camberwell Sports Ground. Overman also contributed to the scoreboard with a goal. Ben has backed up his 2021 B&F win with some great games for St. Bernards this year and is prepared for a VFL return if it becomes a possibility.

The way the weekend turned out, Harry Andronaco played the ultimate team first role by travelling to Ballarat with the VFL side and although he didn’t get to play a game of football on the weekend, his acceptance of playing his role would have pleased his teammates and coaches no end.

Jonathan Marsh was best on ground for Old Carey as they suffered a 131-point loss to Old Haileybury. Max Thompson and Dylan Thomas both contributed on the scoreboard with a goal each. All three boys will be keen to crack back into the Lions side over the course of the next three weeks.

Macgregor Cameron once again played in Monash Blues’ 72-point win over Old Geelong. Mac hasn’t yet had an opportunity at VFL level but has dominated the VAFA’s Premier C competition again in 2022.

EDFL

Daniel Guccione once again played for Pascoe Vale as they took another step forward for September action with a 27-point win over Maribyrnong Park.

Bailey Ryan managed a goal as Hillside escaped with a 3-point win over Moonee Valley at Ormond Park.

Both Daniel and Bailey will be hoping to get a look in at VFL level over the coming weeks.

Northern FL

Young ruckman Nathan Howard played in Bundoora’s 14-point win over Greensborough.

Eastern FL

Sam Lowson continued his return to full fitness and managed three goals in another East Ringwood win, beating Wantirna South by 67-points.

GVFL

Riley Mason chipped in with two goals as Seymour went down to Mooroopna by 20 points away.

Stay tuned for next week’s edition.
