LIONS OUTCLASS YABBIES IN CHILLY CONDITIONS

By Mathew Asciak

The Lions secured their 13th win of the season, easily accounting for Tyabb in chilly
conditions at Bunguyan Reserve, running out 98-point winners 16.14.100 to 0.2.2.
After a close finish last week against Mornington, the Lions were eager to respond by
putting together a relenting offensive performance.

Dominating the time in forward half in the opening 5 minutes, Brittney Gray was rewarded for a strong tackle, winning a free kick, and executing the forthcoming set shot. After a few minor scores, the Burgers added to their goal tally once again through the crafty of Teagan Brett, who pounced on a loose ball
and scored from close range.

Leading by 19 points at quarter time, the Lions continued their dominance through repeat
inside 50’s, not giving the home side any reprieve. The Coburg midfield was on top, led by
the skipper Maddie Edwards and Brittney Gray, giving constant scoring opportunities for the
likes of Racheal Burton, who was the standout of the 2nd term, booting three goals. Sophie
Damon and Ruby Taranto were constant threats in the forward 50 and Taranto would be
rewarded with a goal, extending the half time lead to 47.

The 2nd half was much like the first, with Coburg dominating the play, trapping the Yabbies
in their defensive half. Goals to Morgan McNally and Edwards was great reward for a super
midfield performance; Burton and Brett also added to their goal tallies in the 3rd term.

With the result beyond doubt, the Lions added another 4 goals to their tally, with Chloe
Prpic and Tash Phipps booting majors. Lauren Collis popped up late to boot the final two
goals of the match.
