LIONS AND SEAGULLS UNITE TO HONOUR LEGENDS OF THE PAST

In 2020, representatives from the Coburg and Williamstown Football Clubs worked together to create a medal for the player adjudged best on ground when the two teams meet in the VFL.

Many names were discussed as names for the medal but ultimately it made complete sense that it was named the McTaggart-Sheldon Medal.

The medal has yet to be awarded due to covid interference in 2020 and 2021 and the two teams not being fixtures to play eachother in 2022 but the great news is that in 2023 it will be awarded.

The medal is named after Coburg Legend Gary “Rat” Sheldon and Williamstown Legend Brett McTaggart who were’ the co-winners of the 1988 Liston Trophy as seen in the image below, and the two legends played many a great contest as opponents throughout the mid to late 1980’s when Coburg and Williamstown faced off in 3 VFA Grand Finals plus many more fierce battles.

Both Sheldon and McTaggart will be in attendance on Saturday April 15th for the round 4 VFL game at DSV Stadium, Williamstown and the medal will be awarded at the after match function to the best player on the field.

Please be there to support our Coburg boys but also to see a club Legend in Gary Sheldon honoured with the awarding of a medal named in honour.
