VALE Graham Douglas

Coburg Football Club has lost one of its true legends.

The Best Clumban Award proudly bears Graham’s name – a fitting tribute that perfectly reflects the tireless work he carried out behind the scenes for decades. Loyal club people like Graham are rare in VFL football, and he was a familiar, welcoming presence on game day for both Coburg and opposition supporters alike.

Graham’s journey with the club began in 1963, playing in the reserves before quickly turning his focus to service off the field. He joined the senior committee in 1967, taking on roles across publicity, special efforts and the social club. In 1977, he initiated the club’s bingo program, which became a vital revenue stream at the time.

Elected Vice President in 1978, Graham went on to serve as President in 1981–82, wearing many hats throughout his time in leadership. From 1984 to 1989 he was a tireless player advocate at tribunals, while also representing the club as a VFA director and delegate. He again served as Vice President across multiple terms before stepping up as President in 1997, at a critical time when the club was in serious danger of folding.

In 2003, Graham took on the role of ground announcer — a position he held with pride until the end of the 2014 season.

A life member since 1976 and recipient of the Lloyd Moss Award in 2008, Graham dedicated more than 50 years of service to the Coburg Football Club. In the club’s 134-year history, only 12 individuals have been named Legends in the Hall of Fame – and Graham Douglas was rightly one of them.

Coburg has lost a legend.
Our deepest condolences to the Douglas family and to everyone connected with the Coburg Football Club. ❤️💙
