As seen in last Thursday’s recent edition of ‘The Roar,’ Coburg Football Club have continued to recruit ahead of the 2018 season, adding former Calder Cannon Tyson Lever, & former O&M Interleague Representative Jay O’Donoghue from Corowa-Rutherglen.
High flying swingman Aidan Tilley, who managed 8 VFL games for Coburg in season 2017 has also committed & will further his Football Development with the Lions for the 2018 season, if he is overlooked in the upcoming National & Rookie Drafts.

The brother of Jake, Tyson now has the opportunity to add to his one game he managed with the Lions in the last round of the 2016 season where he was the 23rd man and was one of the sides best players on the day. Tyson spent the 2017 season as a SANFL Listed player with the Adelaide Crows where he managed nine games, and now is excited to be reunited among many former Calder Cannons teammates.
“I’m looking forward to playing with the Coburg Football Club, it has a young and exciting list and with the new Coach in Leigh Adams it brings AFL knowledge to the young boys and hopefully we strive off it. I’ve decided to play with Coburg as I believe this team has what it takes to challenge the AFL clubs in the competition, as well as the powerful stand alone clubs too,” said Lever.
Having played 2 Development League games for Werribee in 2017, O’Donoghue is excited to challenge himself at VFL level with the Lions having already managed 50 games of Senior O&M football with the Kangaroos since crossing from the Hume Leagues CDHBU Power, where he played his Junior Football.
“I’ve been wanting to further my footy and improve by having a good crack at trying to get into the VFL system, I’m also finishing my plumbing apprenticeship at the end of this year so therefore it’s good timing. A couple of Corowa boys are at the club now, so I have some familiar faces there making the move a lot easier.
I’m looking forward to having a solid preseason and playing as many games as possible next year with Coburg and hopefully becoming a better player for it,” said O’Donoghue
West Preston Lakeside junior Tilley held his spot for a further 5 games after initially playing the first three as the 23rd man and made an instant impact up forward, taking one of the marks of the season in his debut in round eight against the Northern Blues. While he played predominantly in defence at TAC Cup level he managed 13 games in the 2017 season with the Cannons and is happy to continue his football development with Coburg. He is also the son of former Fitzroy & St.Kilda player from the 1980’s in Paul Tilley.
“Obviously the opportunity during season 2017 was an awesome experience and it was good to learn new things from other players, and also learning from Germo was also really good! I didn’t play many games due to my Cannons commitments, but it didn’t take long to realise what a grouse bunch of blokes there are here at Coburg so I look forward to another year with the group, especially with a new Coaching Staff. Things are looking pretty good and I’m excited to see this young group grow and show their best in season 2018,” said Tilley.
Lever, O’Donoghue & Tilley all join Tom Condon & Lochie Dickson as new recruits to the club.
Please welcome all three players!
Stay tuned for more List Management updates as they come to hand.
