Coburg’s playing list for 2020 has continued to come together with the re-signing of Tyson Lever.

Having played 17 games this year, Lever cemented himself in Coburg’s best 22, spending most of his year in defence.

He averaged 17.6 disposals per game and was one of the clubs most effective ball users with a disposal efficiency of 75.7%.

Lever also led Coburg in rebound 50’s with 6.3 per game, thanks to his run from defence and elite skills which helped the team transition from defence to attack.

He was rewarded for his excellent season on Jim Sullivan Medal night when he finished third in the clubs best and fairest, just one vote behind Marcus Lentini for second and six votes behind eventual winner Lochie Dickson.

After breaking his collarbone twice in 2018, Lever was finally able to string some games together this year.

“I just had to get my body right,” he said, “I started the season pretty slow but played some good footy during the middle to back end of the year.”

Lever said he was excited to re-sign with the club for next year.

“The core of this year has all signed on and it’s a really enjoyable club to be around,” he said.

Lever has now played 29 games for Coburg and with a full pre-season ahead of 2020, expect many more for the 21-year-old.

Coburg General Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo was also full of praise for Lever saying “Tyson will be entering his third season as a VFL player and fourth in a state league system and we are looking forward to where he can take his footy with us. 2019 was an outstanding season for Tyson and we’ve been excited by his desire to improve again in 2020.”

“Tyson is the 23rdplayer to re-sign with the club for 2020 showing greater stability than in previous years at the same time of the year, our playing group is so tight knit and wanting to taste success together.”
